Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Sept. 15: The Department of Psychology, Institute of Social Sciences, MGM University, observed World Suicide Prevention Day through a series of awareness and creative activities. Held at Chintangaah, the programme aimed to raise awareness about mental health, encourage open and sensitive conversations around suicide, and help individuals in need access timely emotional support and professional assistance. The initiative was organised under the theme ‘Creating Hope Through Action’.
The programme was graced by Shashi Ranjan Kumar, Secretary, Union Public Service Commission; Santosh Ajmera, Joint Secretary, UPSC; Shri Ankushrao Kadam, Chancellor, MGM University; Prof. Dr. Vilas Sapkal, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Ashish Gadekar, Registrar; Dr. Rekha Shelke, Dean; Dr. Ramesh Jare, Director; Dr. Mansi Karjagavkar; along with Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students and other dignitaries.
An awareness rally was organised across the University campus, followed by various awareness stalls, psychological assessment centres, a poster exhibition and creative activities. Students from different departments and institutes conveyed messages of hope, resilience, communication, empathy and support through poetry, shayari, storytelling, speeches, singing, street plays, dance and flash mobs. Students participating in the initiative also had an opportunity to reflect on their own mental well-being through psychological assessments.
The initiative highlighted that suicide prevention from a psychological perspective is not limited to intervention during a crisis. It also involves strengthening interpersonal relationships, addressing misconceptions and stigma surrounding mental health, recognising signs of emotional distress, creating a safe environment for individuals to express their feelings, and ensuring access to professional support at the right time.
Students participating in the initiative openly expressed their thoughts, feelings, experiences and perspectives related to mental health. The programme conveyed the message that when individuals have a safe space to express their emotions, a sense of connection with society and the necessary support to seek help, hope can be transformed into action.

एमजीएममध्ये जागतिक आत्महत्या प्रतिबंध दिन विविध उपक्रमांनी साजरा
छत्रपती संभाजीनगर, दि. १५ : महात्मा गांधी मिशन विद्यापीठाच्या इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ सोशल सायन्सेसच्या मानसशास्त्र विभागाच्या वतीने जागतिक आत्महत्या प्रतिबंध दिन विविध जनजागृतीपर आणि सर्जनशील उपक्रमांनी उत्साहात साजरा करण्यात आला. चिंतनगाह येथे आयोजित या कार्यक्रमाचा उद्देश मानसिक आरोग्याविषयी जागरूकता निर्माण करणे, आत्महत्येविषयी खुले व संवेदनशील संवाद घडवून आणणे तसेच गरजू व्यक्तींना वेळीच मानसिक आधार व व्यावसायिक मदत मिळवून देणे हा होता. ‘क्रिएटिंग होप थ्रू ॲक्शन’ या संकल्पनेनुसार हा उपक्रम राबविण्यात आला.
या कार्यक्रमास केंद्रीय लोकसेवा आयोगाचे सचिव शशी रंजन कुमार, सहसचिव संतोष अजमेरा, एमजीएम विद्यापीठाचे कुलपती अंकुशराव कदम, कुलगुरू प्रा. डॉ. विलास सपकाळ, कुलसचिव डॉ. आशिष गाडेकर, अधिष्ठाता डॉ. रेखा शेळके, संचालक डॉ. रमेश जरे, डॉ. मानसी करजगावकर, सर्व अधिष्ठाता, संचालक, विभागप्रमुख, प्राध्यापक, विद्यार्थी व संबंधित मान्यवर उपस्थित होते.
विद्यापीठ परिसरात जनजागृती रॅलीचे आयोजन करण्यात आले. त्यानंतर विविध जनजागृतीपर स्टॉल्स, मानसशास्त्रीय मूल्यांकन केंद्रे, पोस्टर प्रदर्शन तसेच सर्जनशील उपक्रम घेण्यात आले. विद्यापीठातील विविध विभाग व संस्थांमधील विद्यार्थ्यांनी कविता, शायरी, कथाकथन, भाषणे, गायन, पथनाट्य, नृत्य आणि फ्लॅश मॉबच्या माध्यमातून आशा, मानसिक लवचिकता, संवाद, सहानुभूती आणि मदतीचा संदेश दिला. यावेळी सहभागी विद्यार्थ्यांना मानसशास्त्रीय मूल्यांकनाद्वारे स्वतःच्या मानसिक आरोग्याकडे पाहण्याची संधी मिळाली.
मानसशास्त्रीय दृष्टिकोनातून आत्महत्या प्रतिबंध हा केवळ संकटाच्या वेळी हस्तक्षेप करण्यापुरता मर्यादित नसून व्यक्तींमधील परस्पर संबंध दृढ करणे, मानसिक आरोग्याविषयीचे गैरसमज व कलंक दूर करणे, भावनिक तणावाची लक्षणे ओळखणे, मनातील भावना व्यक्त करण्यासाठी सुरक्षित वातावरण निर्माण करणे आणि योग्य वेळी व्यावसायिक मदत मिळवून देणे या बाबींवरही अवलंबून असतो, हा संदेश या उपक्रमातून देण्यात आला.
या उपक्रमात सहभागी होत विद्यार्थ्यांनी मानसिक आरोग्याशी संबंधित आपले विचार, भावना, अनुभव व दृष्टिकोन खुलेपणाने व्यक्त केले. व्यक्तीला आपल्या भावना व्यक्त करण्यासाठी सुरक्षित जागा, समाजाशी जोडणारी भावना आणि मदत मागण्यासाठी आवश्यक आधार मिळाल्यास आशेचे रूपांतर कृतीत होऊ शकते, हा संदेश या कार्यक्रमातून देण्यात आला.
