Rare Maratha-Era Weapons Draw Enthusiastic Response from History Enthusiasts

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, August 29: History enthusiasts were captivated by a rare display of Maratha-era weapons, including armour, Waghnakh (tiger claws), Dandpatta (gauntlet sword), daggers, spears, Sang, Madu, various types of swords, knives, Karwar swords, khanjars, Bichwas, and massive 1,500–2,000 kg cannons made of panchadhatu (five-metal alloy). The exhibition offered visitors a glimpse into the military brilliance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the valour of his Maval warriors, evoking the popular line, “Shivrayancha Buddhi Yukticha Lagna Na Para…” (There is no measure to Shivaji Maharaj's wisdom and strategy).

The third edition of the ‘Shaharnama’ Heritage Walk was organised on Sunday at the Shrimant Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Antique Museum. The event was jointly organised by the Department of History and Archaeology, MGM University, Aakhyan Foundation, Garware Community Centre, Rotary Club of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar East, AdGuide Media Pvt. Ltd., the India Tourism Department, and Team Shaharnama.

Located near the historic Rangin Darwaza and Himayat Bagh in the Kila-Ark area, the museum houses an impressive collection of archaeological artefacts and historical objects. Curator Swapnil Magar, Museum Director Shriprakash Purwar, and archaeologist Ashutosh Patil guided participants through the museum, explaining its history, unique collections, and the significance of its rare exhibits.

The Shivaji Maharaj's Military Strategy Gallery featured an extensive collection of weapons used during the Maratha period, including Dhop swords, Mulheri swords, Mewari swords, Tega swords, Saif swords, Shirohi swords, along with various types of knives, khanjars, bichwas, and cannons. The Fort Gallery showcased photographs depicting the establishment and evolution of the Maratha forts that formed the backbone of the Swarajya.

Visitors also explored the Maratha Lifestyle Gallery, which displayed everyday household items such as traditional utensils, ritual vessels, Gangajali, Navagraha Lota, iron lamps, Guru-Shishya lamps, Samai, Deepmala, Deep Lakshmi, Kapoor Aarti, Pancharati, and other ceremonial lamps, along with idols of various deities. Rare artefacts such as a 400-year-old Quran, the traditional board game Saripat, treasure chests, jewellery boxes, heavy iron locks, royal farmans, and the birth horoscope of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj were among the highlights.

The Coins of Maharashtra Gallery displayed coins from ancient times to the British era, while another section showcased objects reflecting the lifestyle of the Maratha Empire, including betel boxes, hookahs, perfume containers, mirrors, spice boxes, and decorative items. The museum also houses rare manuscripts such as the Dnyaneshwari and Eknathi Bhagwat, along with portraits of Sawai Madhavrao Peshwa, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, and Mahadji Shinde.

One of the museum's major attractions is the Satavahana Gallery, which features pottery and artefacts dating back nearly 2,000 years. Many of these historical objects, including terracotta jewellery, idols, animal jawbones, and other archaeological finds discovered in Ter village of Dharashiv district, were donated to the museum by Ramlingappa Lamture.

Participants appreciated the Heritage Walk for providing a fresh perspective on the city's rich heritage and expressed hope that such initiatives would continue regularly. The programme began with a tribute to Kargil Vijay Diwas, followed by the prize distribution ceremony for the photography competition held during the previous Heritage Walk.

More than 150 participants attended the event. The Tourism and Health Department of the Municipal Corporation extended support for the programme, while Shafiq Shahbaz from the India Tourism Department conveyed his best wishes.

The Heritage Walk was coordinated by Sunil Sutawane and Ramakant Rautalle of the Garware Community Centre, Assistant Professor Ashutosh Patil from the Department of History and Archaeology, MGM University, Om Pardeshi of AdGuide Media, Nivrutti Gajbhare of the Rotary Club of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar East, Senior Tourism Officer Snehal Patil of the India Tourism Department, and Team Shaharnama.

पुराणवस्तू संग्रहालयात शहरनामाचा तिसरा हेरिटेज वॉक उत्साहात संपन्न

‘शिवरायांच्या बुद्धी युक्तीचा लागना पारं’; शिवकालीन दुर्मिळ शस्त्र पाहण्यास नागरिकांचा उत्स्फूर्त प्रतिसाद

छत्रपती संभाजीनगर, दि.२९: चिलखत, वाघनख, दांडपट्टा, कट्यार,भाले,सांग, माडू, निरनिराळ्या तलवारी, सुरा, करवार, खंजीर ,बिचवा, पंचधातूच्या दीड ते दोन हजार किलोंच्या तोफ बघताना शिवकालीन युद्धकला व छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या युद्ध कौशल्याचा अनुभव घेत इतिहासप्रेमी अवाक झाली. शिवाजी महाराज व मावळ्यांच्या अफाट साहसाची साक्ष देणारी ही शस्त्र बघून “शिवरायांच्या बुद्धी युक्तीचा लाग ना पारं..” या गाण्यातल्या ओळी आठवत होत्या. ‘शहरनामा’चा तिसरा हेरिटेज वॉक रविवारी श्रीमंत छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज पुराणवस्तू संग्रहालयात घेण्यात आला. एमजीएम विद्यापीठाचा इतिहास व पुरातत्व विभाग, आख्यान फाऊंडेशन, गरवारे कम्युनिटी सेंटर, रोटरी क्लब ऑफ छत्रपती संभाजीनगर ईस्ट, अॅडगाइड मीडिया प्रा. लि., भारत पर्यटन विभाग व टीम शहरानामा यांनी या कार्यक्रमाचे आयोजन केले होते.

किलेअर्क परिसरातील रंगीन दरवाजा व हिमायत बाग या ऐतिहासिक वास्तूंजवळ असलेल्या या पुराणवस्तू संग्रहालयाचा इतिहास, वैशिष्ट्ये, दुर्मिळ पुरातत्वीय अवशेष व कलावस्तूंची सविस्तर माहिती क्युरेटर स्वप्नील मगर आणि संचालक श्रीप्रकाश पुरवार आणि पुरातत्वविद आशुतोष पाटील यांनी दिली. शिवरायांची युद्धनीती दालनात युद्धात वापरलेल्या वस्तू जसे धोप तलवार, मूल्हेरी तलवार, मेवाडी तलवार, तेगा तलवार, सैफ तलवार,शिरोही तलवार,विविध प्रकारच्या सुरा, करवार, खंजीर ,बिचवा, तोफ बघायला मिळाल्या.

किल्ले दालनात स्वराज्याच्या निर्मितीपासून किल्ल्यांचे फोटो होते. यानंतर मराठाकालीन जनजीवन या दालनात दैनंदिन जीवनातीव वस्तू जसे वेगवेगळे भांडी, दशावरती तांब्या, अभिषेक पात्र, गंगाजळी, नवग्रहलोटा, लोखंडी दिवे गुरू-शिष्य दिवा, शमादान समई, दीपमाळा, दिवटी, दीप लक्ष्मी, कपूर आरती, पंचारती, लामन दिवा आदींसह असे दिव्यांचे प्रकार,देव-देवतांच्या मूर्ती बघता आल्या. चारशे वर्षांपूर्वी जुनी कुराण, सारीपाट खेळही आहेत. नाण्यातून महाराष्ट्र या दालनात प्राचीन नाण्यांपासून ते ब्रिटिशकाळापर्यंतची नाणी बघायला मिळतात. याविषयी खजिनापेटी, दागिन्यांची पेटी, वेगवेगळ्या आकाराची पण अतिशय जड लोखंडी कुलूप, फर्मान, महाराजांची जन्म कुंडली बघता आली. अशीच या तीन नंबरचे हॉलमध्ये ठेवण्यात आलेले आहे. तत्कालीन मराठी साम्राज्याचा चालता बोलता आरसा जसे निरनिराळे अडकित्ते, सुरमादानी, वजरी,पानदान, हुक्का, सुरई, पंचपाळ, मसालादाणी, आरसे आदी वस्तू इथे आहेत. तसेच ज्ञानेश्वरी, एकनाथी भागवत, पोथींसह सवाई माधवराव पेशवे, झाशीची राणी लक्ष्मीबाई, महादजी शिंदे यांची चित्रे संग्रहालयात आहे‌. सातवाहनकालीन दालनही संग्रहालयाचे खास आकर्षण. किमान दोन हजार वर्षांपूर्वीच्या मातीच्या वस्तू इथे आहेत. धाराशिव जिल्ह्यातील तेर तालुक्यामध्ये रामलिंगअप्पा लामतुरे यांच्या शेतात सापडलेल्या ऐतिहासिक वस्तू त्यांनी संग्रहालयास भेट दिल्या. यात टेराकोटाश ज्वेलरी, देवांचृया मूर्ती, प्राण्यांचे जबडे आदींचा संग्रह बघायला मिळतो. हेरिटेज वॉकने पुराणवस्तू ⁠संग्रहालय बघण्याची नवीन दृष्टी दिली. असे उपक्रम सुरू ठेवायला हवे, अशी अपेक्षा इतिहासप्रेमींनी व्यक्त केली. तत्पूर्वी ⁠कारगिल विजय दिवसाचे स्मरण करत हेरिटेज वॉकला सुरवात करण्यात आली. तसेच गेल्या हेरिटेज वॉकच्या फोटोग्राफी स्पर्धेचे पारितोषिक वितरण यावेळी करण्यात आले. दीडशेहून अधिक जण यावेळी उपस्थित होते. महापालिकेचा पर्यटन व आरोग्य विभागाच्या टीमनेही सहाय्य केले‌ व पर्यटन विभागाच्या शफीक शहबाज यांनीही शुभेच्छा दिल्या.

गरवारे कम्युनिटी सेंटरचे संचालक सुनील सुतवणे व रमाकांत रौतल्ले, एमजीएम विद्यापीठाच्या इतिहास व पुरातत्व विभागाचे सहाय्यक प्रा.आशुतोष पाटील, अॅडगाइड मीडियाचे ओम परदेशी, रोटरी क्लब ऑफ छत्रपती संभाजीनगर ईस्टचे निवृत्ती गजभारे, भारत पर्यटन विभागाच्या वरिष्ठ अधिकारी स्नेहल पाटील व टीम शहरनामा यांनी या हेरिटेज वॉकसाठी परिश्रम घेतले.
